Largest TV audience for a domestic football (soccer) league

The most viewed domestic football (soccer) league globally is the Premier League which was broadcast to an estimated 4.7 billion people in 212 territories during the 2010/11 season that ran from 14 August 2010 to 22 May 2011. The research on viewing figures was carried out by SPORT+MARKT a German organization dedicated to Sports Marketing Research. One of the key reasons for the surge in viewers of the English Premier League during this period was the Premier League being broadcast on terrestrial television in China. The study found that 64% of Chinese football fans follow the League closely. That is higher than the 50% reported from the USA. The study estimated that 3.9 billion viewers watched the league in home while 777 million watched out of home.
