The largest acquisition of a venture-backed company is $16 billion (£9.6 billion; €11.7 billion) paid by Facebook, Inc. to acquire the mobile messaging company WhatsApp (USA) on 19 February 2014.
The actual transaction includes $4 billion in cash and approximately $12 billion worth of Facebook shares.
The deal also includes additional $3 billion in restricted stock units to be granted to WhatsApp’s founders and employees that will vest over four years subsequent to closing, which will eventually raise the final transaction to $19 billion.
