Most mainstream games awards won by an indie videogame

Between 2012 and 2013, PS3 adventure Journey, developed by US studio Thatgamecompany, won an astonishing 28 gongs across "mainstream" annual games awards – the most of any indie videogame, as of September 2015.

The full list of awards is:

• 5 BAFTAs (Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Online Multiplayer, Original Music).

• 6 Games Developer Choice Awards (Game of the Year, Innovation, Audio, Best Downloadable Game, Best Game Design, Best Visual Arts).

• 8 DICE Awards (Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design, Casual Game of the Year, Outstanding Innovation in Gaming, Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction and Game of the Year).

• 3 Spike TV VGAs (Best PS3 game, Best Original Score, Best Independent Game).

• 5 G.A.N.G. awards for its music (Music of the Year, Best Original Soundtrack Album, Best Interactive Score, Best Original Instrumental, Best Original Vocal Song - Pop).

• 1 Japan Game Award (Game Designers Award). A PS4 version of Journey released in 2015 to further critical acclaim.

Including awards in the specialist games press, Journey won a total of 118 awards.
