Highest-grossing biographical movie

The highest-grossing biographical film is Oppenheimer (USA, 2023), which earned $628,713,539 (£494,151,220) at the global box office as of 25 January 2024, according to The Numbers.

The film, which stars Cillian Murphy and was directed by Christopher Nolan, tells the life story of scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, who led the development of the first nuclear weapon. It was released on 21 July 2023 alongside Greta Gerwig's Barbie (USA), and many fans watched the two movies as a double feature that they called "Barbenheimer".
