The Demag CC 12600 made by Mannesmann Dematic is 198 m (650 ft) high in its tallest configuration, which consists of a 120m (394 ft) 'fixed jib' attached to a 114 m (374 ft) near-vertical boom.  It has a maximum lifting capacity of 1600 tonnes (at 22m or 72 ft radius) and is so large that it requires 100 trucks to transport all its different parts to a site. The massive CC 12600 was commissioned for the construction of a 1,600 Megawatt power station in Lippendorf, Germany, one of Europe's largest open cast mining districts for brown coal. During the first phase of construction it was used to lift large prefabricated components weighing up to 250 tonnes, to heights of over 100m (328ft). The operating weight of the crane is 4,000 tonnes: 2,500 tonnes for the crane itself and 1,500 tonnes for the maximum counterweight, which rests on a specially designed wheeled carrier that allows it to follow the movements of the crawler. Although 100 trucks are required to move the crane to site, it is not particularly difficult to transport: it breaks up into components that are no wider than 4m (13ft) and no higher than 3.32m (11ft), and their maximum weight is 60tonnes. The 16.8m (55ft) crawler on which the crane rests moves on tank-style tracks at a maximum speed of 0,48km/h (0.298mph).
