On 29 September 2020, reggaeton singer J Balvin (Colombia, b. José Balvin) received 13 nominations ahead of the 21st Annual Latin Grammy Awards, scheduled for broadcast on 19 November 2020. Balvin was nominated twice in the Record of the Year category (for “Rojo” and “China”) and twice for Album of the Year (for Colores and Oasis, his collaboration with Bad Bunny).
Colores and Oasis were also both nominated in the Best Urban Music Album category, while “Rojo” received nods for Best Urban Song and Best Short Form Music Video in addition to Record of the Year.
Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 (stepbrothers “Residente” and “Visitante”) previously held the record for the most nominations in a single year – 10, for the 12th annual awards ceremony in 2011.
J Balvin has won four times previously at the Latin Grammy Awards, for Best Urban Song (“Ay Vamos”, 2015; “Con Altura”, 2019) and Best Urban Music Album (Energía, 2016; Vibras, 2018).
