The first Olympic gold in surfing (male) was won by Italo Ferreira (Brazil), at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, at Tsurigasaki Surfing Beach, Japan, on 27 July 2021.
The Brazilian impressed to win the final over local hero Kanoa Igarashi and the first-ever Gold medal in Olympic surfing.
