At the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, 35-year-old Arianna Fontana claimed a gold in the 2000 m mixed relay and silvers in the 500 m and 3000 m relay to become Italy’s most decorated Olympian. Fontana – nicknamed L’Angelo Biondo (“The Blonde Angel”), won her first Winter Olympic medal at Turin 2006 at the age of just 15. She went on to amass three golds, six silvers and five bronze across six Games, winning a medal at every contestable distance (500 m, 1,000 m, 1,500 m, 3,000 m relay and 2,000 m mixed relay).
