On 24 March 2022, the award-winning Brazilian singer, actress and TV personality Anitta (b. Larissa de Macedo Machado) climbed to No.1 on Spotify’s Global Top 200 daily chart with “Envolver” after it had racked up 6.39 million streams worldwide. Collaborative Latin artists such as Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (“Despacito”), J Balvin (“Mi Gente”, feat. Willy William), Bad Bunny (“Dákiti”, feat. Jhay Cortez) and Camila Cabello (“Havana” and “Señorita”, feat. Young Thug and Shawn Mendes, respectively) had previously scored chart-topping tracks on Spotify’s Global Top 200, but “Girl from Rio” Anitta was the first solo Latin artist – and the first Brazilian act – to hit No.1.

“Envolver” knocked “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals off the No.1 spot with 6,391,619 global streams on 24 March. It retained the top spot on 25 March (7,278,115 – at the time, the most single-day streams in 2022 on Spotify) and 26 March (5,184,127) before making way for the indefatigable “Heat Waves” on 27 March. “Envolver” amassed 24,206,785 streams for the week to 24 March 2022, according to spotifycharts.com. It was the third-most popular track of that week, behind “Heat Waves” (30.6 million) and “Stay” by The Kid LAROI feat. Justin Bieber (24.6 million).

As of 1 April 2022, Anitta had 28.67 million monthly listeners and 11.41 million followers on Spotify, where she is described as the “leading artist of a new generation” and the “biggest ever global female pop star to come from Brazil”.

“Envolver”, performed in Spanish and taken from her fifth studio album Versions of Me, had amassed 108.45 million streams on Spotify as of 1 April 2022.
