Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada) and Erin Routliffe (New Zealand) walked away with $1.125 million (£868,986) – the biggest-ever doubles winners’ prize at a top-level tennis tournament – after completing an undefeated week at the end-of-season WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 2-9 November 2024.
Between them, the champions pocketed $520,000 (£401,665) for beating Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend 7-5, 6-3 in the final, $255,000 (£196,970) for defeating Chan Hao-ching and Veronika Kudermetova in the semi-finals and $210,000 (£162,211) for winning all three of their round-robin matches in the White Group, plus a $140,000 (£108,140) participation fee. With a total prize pot of $15.25 million (£11,779,588), the 2024 WTA Finals offered a staggering 69.44% increase in prize money compared to the 2023 edition in Cancún, Mexico ($9 million, or £7,266,897). The 2025 WTA Finals (1-8 November) in Riyadh upped the ante once again, with $15.5 million (£11,798,383) on offer in the singles and doubles tournaments combined. However, by losing one of their three group matches, doubles champions Kudermetova and Elise Mertens collected ‘just’ $1,067,000 (£812,185) – instead of $1.139 million (£866,991) for their week in Saudi Arabia.
