The highest speed ever reached in a Formula 1 powerboat is 256.25 km/h (159.22 mph) by Guido Cappellini (Italy) on Lake D'Iseo in northern Italy on 29 April 2005. His lightweight carbon fibre boat was powered by a 2.5 litre (153 cu in) Mercury engine.
