Fastest completion of Sonic the Hedgehog

The fastest completion time of the original Sonic the Hedgehog is 11 minutes 8 seconds by Mike "mike89" McKenzie (Australia), on 29 June 2009. This run was completed in a single segment using the Sega Game Gear version of the game. This record is timed using the in-game timer in the stages that have it, and manually timing the stages without the timer, counting only periods where the player controls Sonic. This is because time bonus scores add to the duration of the score countdown screens (which are non-interactive and cannot be skipped).
