The most consecutive Olympic beach volleyball titles won is three, by Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings (both USA) at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. The pair, who were unbeaten in Olympic competition, winning 42 sets and losing just one, became the first team (male or female) to retain an Olympic title and the first to win three back-to-back Olympic gold medals. May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings retained their Olympic title by defeating Jia Tian and Jie Wang (both China) 21-18, 21-18 at Chaoyang Park, Beijing, China, on 22 August 2008. They won their third successive Olympic title with a 21-16, 21-16 win against fellow Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross (both USA) at Horse Guards Parade, London, UK, on 8 August 2012. May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings lost their first and only set in Olympic competition (42 sets won, 1 lost) on 1 August 2012 when Austria's Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger took the first set of their group match, 21-17. In 2008, the pair took a three-year break after becoming the first team (male or female) to retain an Olympic title. After the London final on 8 August 2012, May-Treanor announced her retirement. Among their many other achievements, May-Treanor and Walsh set an all-time record by winning 112 consecutive domestic and international beach volleyball matches between 24 August 2007 and 31 August 2008. The pair also won 89 matches in a row from 5 July 2003 to 6 June 2004, the second best winning streak ever. See record ID 69468.
