Developed by UK studio Rare and released on 4 November 2010, Kinect Sports had sold more than 3 million copies by May 2011.
The game (which is not bundled with the Kinect) features six events to choose from – bowling, boxing, track and field, table tennis, football and beach volleyball.
Kinect was first unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 press conference on 1 June 2009. Back then it was code-named Project Natal. The name was chosen by Alex Kipman, one of the brains behind the technology. Microsoft likes to use cities as code-names and Natal is the name of a city in Brazil, Kipman’s home country. He liked the way it means “to be born” in Latin, which seemed fitting for a device designed to attract new types of people to the world of gaming.
