Brother Giovanni Battista Orsenigo of the Ospedale Fatebenefratelli, Rome, Italy, accumulated approximately 2,000,744 human teeth.
Brother Orsenigo (1837–1904) was a monk from the Ospitalieri di San Giovanni di Dio – Fatebenefratelli holy order who was also a dentist. He kept all the teeth he extracted during the time he exercised his profession from 1868 to 1904. In 1903, the number was counted and found to be 2,000,744 teeth, indicating an average of 185 teeth, or nearly six total extractions, a day. Doubt has since been cast on Orsenigo extracting all of the teeth – he would have had to pull 2–3 teeth every minute if working a 10-hour shift six days a week.
