Muscles normally account for 40% of human bodyweight in men and 35% in women. The bulkiest of the 639 named muscles in the human body is usually the gluteus maximus or buttock muscle, which extends the thigh. However, in pregnancy the uterus or womb can increase from about 30 g (1 oz) to over 1 kg (2.2 lb) in weight.
