The first Asian female to win the Best Director Oscar is Chloe Zhao (China) who won for her film Nomadland (USA) at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards on 25 April 2021.
Chloe is only the second woman to win Best Director, following Kathryn Bigelow who won in 2010 for The Hurt Locker.
